“sometimes i’m asked if there’s anything in cucumber quest i regret. i have a few answers that i’d rather not get into, but one thing i’d like to say unequivocally is that the fat jokes at bacon’s expense were dreadful and i’d remove them in a heartbeat if i had a time machine. my regret may be obvious from the trajectory bacon’s character took in later chapters, but it bears stating clearly. i’m sorry to anyone, particularly young readers i hurt with such lazy humor. i’ve done a lot of growing up since.”
